Basque Region
The Elko SC group began their tour with 2 days in Pamplona in the
Navarra region of Spain. While in Pamplona the group took in
many of the key historical and cultural sights. They visited the
Plaza del Toros, and walked the route of the city's world-famous
running of the bulls. The group made a short tour of the
nearby city of Vitoria-Gasteiz, where the Elko teams also played
matches with the teams of a quality girls club, followed by dinner
and social time with the locals.
Next the Elko group
transfer over the Pyrenees mountains to the French side of Basque
country for a 2-day stay in the small historic city of Pau.
The group enjoyed especially the outdoor dining in the quaint
streets in the area of the famous Château, birthplace of Henry IV.
Here the Elko teams played matches, this time with the
well-developed regional selections for the Pyrénées-Atlantiques,
again followed by a dinner social.

Donosti Cup
The Elko group transferred to San Sebastián, the base for the
remaining 7 days of their tour. The Elko teams had time for
just 1 training session before launching into the busy match
schedules for the 3 teams in the Donosti Cup tournament. The
teams enjoyed the well-organized tournament with its good
competition, international opponents, and terrific venues, including
the start-of-the-art complex of professional club Real Sociedad.
Free-time between matches was relished with frequent short walks to
the perfect beaches of San Sebastián. The group also enjoyed a
half-day outing back over the border into the famous seaside city of
Biarritz, France. Some in the group made excursions to Bilbao,
host to the famous Guggenheim museum, and back to Pamplona to
experience first-hand the running of the bulls. All enjoyed
the beautiful architecture, friendly people, and the unparalleled
eating experience, for which the famous Basque city of San Sebastián
is well known.
